TERRE HAUTE POLICE DEPARTMENT

ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

February 1, 2018 through April 13, 2018

The Terre Haute Police Department will be accepting applications for the position of POLICE OFFICER, beginning Monday, February 1, 2018 at 8:00am, and concluding Friday, April 13, 2018 at 4:00pm.

The application for employment and physical agility testing standards will be available for download at the bottom of this page beginning on February 1, 2018. All applications must be submitted by email to Capt. Jason Brentlinger at Jason.Brentlinger@terrehaute.in.gov no later than 4:00pm on April 13, 2018. Questions may be directed to Capt. No late submissions or paper copies of applications will be accepted. Following the application period, applicants will be invited to participate in a written examination and physical agility testing, which will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at St. Mary of the Woods College, 3301 St. Mary’s Rd., West Terre Haute, IN 47885. There will be no additional or make-up dates for this testing, and all applicants should make themselves available on that day from 8:00am until approximately 5:00pm. Applicants should familiarize themselves with the physical agility passing standards, available in the PHYSICAL AGILITY TESTING PACKET download file, and be prepared to successfully complete these standards on the date of the testing. Each applicant must pass all physical standards on the first attempt, as there will be no additional attempts allowed. It is our policy to allow a minimum of six (6) weeks from the start of the application acceptance period for applicants to adequately prepare themselves for this testing.

Following an applicants’ successful completion of the written examination and physical agility testing, each applicant will be provided a list of documentation, as well as employment and character reference packets, which the applicant should prepare and/or complete, and return to the Terre Haute Police Department at the time of their preliminary interview.

Applicants who successfully pass a preliminary interview, background investigation and credit history review will be invited to take part in a secondary interview with members of the Terre Haute Police Department Merit Commission, who will then rank all qualified applicants upon a qualified applicant list, which will remain valid for a period of one (1) year.

 ELIGIBILITY FOR APPOINTMENT

(1) The applicant shall complete information requested in the Application for Employment to the best of his/her knowledge and belief. Any misrepresentation made upon the Application, by the applicant, may render such applicant ineligible for any position with the Terre Haute         Police Department

(2) Any applicant who personally, or through any other person, solicits any member of the Terre Haute Police Department Merit Commission to favor their appointment to the Terre Haute Police Department, shall by thereby ineligible for this, and all future appointments.

(3) Requirements for Eligibility:

a.       A Citizen of the United States of America;

b.       A high school graduate or equivalent;

c.        Of good moral character;

d.       At least 21 years of age, but not yet 36 years of age;

e.       Upon appointment, members of the Terre Haute Police Department must reside in Indiana, in one of the following areas:

1.       Within Vigo County; or

2.       In a county that is contiguous to the county in which the city is located, per I.C. 36-8-4-2.

f.         Without a felony conviction on his/her record;

g.       Able to produce satisfactory proof of the date and place of his/her birth;

h.       Must meet the standards established for a General Aptitude Test required under I.C. 36-8-3.5-12(d), 12(e), 12(g), and I.C. 36-8-3.2-6 and I.C. 36-8-8-19, or any comparable test which may hereinafter be adopted under Indiana law;

i.         Able to successfully complete any required agility test or other test of either physical condition, qualifications, emotional stability, physical or mental fitness, or other qualifying examination which may be from time to time required by the department of the Terre Haute Police Department Merit Commission.

j.         A physician appointed by the Board of Trustees of the Pension Fund for the City of Terre Haute shall certify that the applicant is eligible for pension benefits. Any charge made by such physician for the examination of the applicant shall be paid by the applicant.

k.        Applicants may be required to submit to a polygraph examination.

l.         If there are any changes to this application following its submission, it is the responsibility of the applicant to notify the Terre Haute Police Department.
