Phase I Groundbreaking at Waste Water Treatment Plant

Mayor Bennett and the City of Terre Haute will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, January 27th at 9:30am for the new headworks facility at the Terre Haute Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).  This is the first phase of a multi-phase project to address improvements to the entire WWTP.

Construction cost for Phase I is approximately $6.7 million, while the anticipated project cost for all phases of the WWTP additions and improvements will be approximately $130 million.  The headworks facility will consist of stationary course screening, self-cleaning fine screens, screenings washer/compactor, grit removal and washing and flow measurement contained in a building with odor control.  The scheduled construction completion date for Phase I is June 29, 2012.

The project, when complete, will provide quality wastewater treatment for existing customers as well as provide increased capacity for future economic development.  Ultimately, this should help to attract employers and bring jobs to the local community.  Special attention to odor control will be provided throughout the new facility.
