Responsibilites and tasks outlined in this document are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the Wastewater Plant.

Position Responsibilites (include but are not limited to the following).

  • Ability to operate and maintain, monitor and trouble-shoot wastewater processes and related equipment.
  • Work involves responsibility for the technical aspects of plant operations, compliance with State and Federal operating regulations, and underground sewer system. Work is performed with considerable independence under the direction of the Operation’s Foreman and Supervisor subject to review through reports and results achieved.
  • Perform aspects of sampling, monitoring and testing required to maintain compliance with regulations governing the wastewater treatment process.
  • Perform daily checks on wastewater treatment processes.
  • Perform all work in accordance to Occupational Safety and Health regulations and maintain a working knowledge of these regulations.
  • Responds to emergency situations, outages and equipment failure, by informing appropriate departments when necessary.
  • Operates trucks, forklifts, and other equipment as needed.
  • Have a working knowledge of the operation, methods and procedures of a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment by insuring all PPE is in good working order and used by all crew members depending on working situation.
  • Maintaining excellent communication with Foreman and/or Supervisors to insure awareness of work being performed.
  • Have a working knowledge of the machinery/equipment used for wastewater treatment.
  • Maintaining records of: Attendance, plant flow, oxygen levels and other related measurements.
  • Ensuring that all work is done in an efficient and timely manner.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Considerable ability to work well with others.
  • Working ability to solve technical problems.
  • Use eyes, hand and fingers to operate or adjust equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:  High School Diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license, and have adequate experience in operating a wastewater treatment facility.

Necessary Special Requirements: Must possess an Indiana Municipal Class I license within 2 years of hire date or transfer into the Operations department.

Education/Training:  Wastewater operational experience is a plus.

  • Ability to use Windows (most recent release), as related to work.
  • Must have developed language skills to the point of being able to: Read and comprehend English (policy manuals, memos, letters, books, journals, instructions, rules etc.). Develop reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar.

Working Conditions:  In and outdoor environments, including extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, and ice, as well as insects will be present.

Training and Teaching:

  • Participate in all training provided through the plant including Safety Training courses.
  • Proper use and care of PPE and all other departmental safety equipment.
  • Follow directions from the Operation’s Foreman/Plant Supervisor regarding all issues of job performance and other work related issues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to see and hear within normal range.
  • Able to lift and carry weight up to 50 lbs.
  • Must pass a drug screen before hire.
  • Manual dexterity in hands and legs to use tools, bend and stretch, kneel or squat for long periods.

Able to climb ladders and steps repeatedly throughout assigned shift.
