If the homeowner is doing their own work, they are required to purchase a permit. If a Contractor has been hired to perform the work, they must obtain the permit. - How much does a building permit cost? The cost of a building permit is based on the value of construction. It is $15.00 for the first $1,000 worth of work and $1.00 for each additional $1,000 or part thereof.
