In January 2024, the City of Terre Haute's Human Relations Commission has elected to begin a strategic planning process. The commission desired to develop a series of goals that would give the group a clear direction for the next three years. The commission met with stakeholders from the Terre Haute community to help provide guidance and recommendations on how the organization should orient their focus. The plan was completed and officially adopted by the commission in June 2024.

The strategic plan features a new mission, vision, and core values for the commission. The plan also outlines six goals and accompanying objectives that will guide the commission's work over the course of the next 3 years. The commission will continue to revisit the plan to ensure they are progressing toward those goals and adjust when necessary.
