Guidelines from the Board of Public Works:
In order to maintain safety and consistency with painting requests of a street, or other objects within the right of way, the Department of Engineering created the following guidelines.
- Paint utilized shall not be retroreflective or colored in such a way that road users construed the paint to be a traffic control device (stop bar, crosswalk, etc)
- Paint utilized shall not be high contrast or any shade that will impair or distract road users.
- Paint utilized shall not impact the performance of existing accessibility features (crosswalks, curb ramps, truncated domes. etc.) or create a surface which can be interpreted as an accessibility feature (truncated dome)
- For Street Painting:
- All paint must be placed within an 18’ by 18’ square at the middle of the intersection.
- The center of the intersection is to be closed for the duration of the painting, with wooden barricades provided by the Street Department or applicant.
- For further objects
- Verify with applicable City Departments that the paint being used will not impact the performance of the object (signal box, signal pole, etc).
