Department:  Engineering

Reports To:    Director of Construction & Asset Management

Position Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following):

  • Inspection of all work requiring permits within the public right of way
  • Calling to the attention of the relevant contractor or utility, as the work progresses, all known deviations from, or infringement upon, the City’s specifications with respect to materials and workmanship
  • Assist with data collection for areas requiring sidewalk repair, as needed
  • Assist with data collection of public infrastructure as pertaining to GIS, as needed
  • Taking phone calls from citizens with concerns regarding work in the public right of way
  • Inspection of small scale public works construction projects, as needed
  • Assist with any other activities performed by the department, as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • General computer knowledge
  • General mathematical knowledge
  • Ability to read site plans and project plans
  • General knowledge of construction materials and methods
  • Ability to be trained in infrastructure construction inspection
  • Ability to handle the inspection and documentation of small scale capital projects
  • Ability to remain professional in contentious situations

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • At least one (1) year of related work experience in construction industry

Working Conditions: Office location, jobsite location

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to see within normal parameters
  • Ability to work in harsh weather conditions
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and twist
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to walk long distances
  • Ability to read and distinguish construction codes and/or colors

Other Requirements:

  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Available to work any hours required
