THE MAYOR’S YOUTH COUNCIL IS OPEN FOR STUDENT APPLICATIONS

Terre Haute, IN – June 12, 2024 – Mayor Sakbun announces the creation of The Mayor's Youth Council. He will be working with the Vigo County School Corporation to select a group of 2024/2025 high school juniors and seniors. The Mayor’s Youth Council is seeking students of outstanding character to apply to be a voice and represent young people in city government.

The program is free and open to juniors and seniors from Terre Haute South Vigo High School, West Vigo High School, Terre Haute North Vigo High School, Booker T. Washington High School, and Vigo Virtual Success Academy.

Council responsibilities will include advising the Mayor on issues, learning about municipal government and the importance of civic participation, performing community outreach, participating on advisory boards as a non-voting member, and organizing youth-orientated service projects. In addition, the Mayor’s Youth Council may attend events and activities related to their initiatives and responsibilities.

The Council will have one to two regular monthly meetings along with two advisory board meetings per semester. Council members are required to complete ten hours of community service.

The deadline for applications is July 1st, 2024. The application is available on the city website; https://terrehaute.in.gov/mayors-office/mayors-youth-council. Please submit your application via email to [email protected] or drop off the completed application to the Mayor’s Office at City Hall.
