Terre Haute Police Department
The Terre Haute Police Dept. Traffic Division currently has 3 uniform officers assigned to the unit. Their responsibilities include responding to and investigating traffic accidents, investigation of all hit and run accidents, traffic law enforcement and patrol of the streets and highways in Terre Haute. The Traffic Division has 5 Harley Davidson police motorcycles in service for the unit. They are used by these officers throughout the year as weather permits. The Traffic Division provides escorts upon request for parades, funerals, dignitaries, etc. The Traffic Division also employs a civilian parking enforcement officer and an office manager. The parking enforcement officer has no arrest powers but patrols downtown Terre Haute on a Segway and issues tickets and summons for parking violations. The office manager oversees the Elementary School Crossing Guard Program and handles the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute Traffic Grants Program, which funds Operation Pullover at the local level.
