Reports to: Plant Supervisor

Summary:  Responsibilities and tasks outlined in this document and are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the Wastewater Plant. Assist with planning, organization and supervision of the Terre Haute Wastewater Treatment Facility. This supervision includes: lift stations and collection system as well as Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO's).

Position Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following).

  • Assists and reports to the Plant Supervisor with overseeing the Operations, Maintenance, Collections, Building and Grounds, Auto Garage and Construction Departments.
  • Assist in the Supervision of the plant maintenance and collection system both in facility operations and outside of plant.
  • Meets with local officials, consulting engineers, contractors, the public and press on all aspects of the divisions work.
  • Performs all related work.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Considerable ability to work tactfully with others.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
  • Working ability to solve technical problems using reason.
  • Analyze complex problems and suggest appropriate solutions.
  • Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and lift stations and/or willingness to learn.
  • Attain an Indiana Municipal Wastewater License based on eligibility.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate administrative and management plans along with Standard Operating Procedures (written SOP’s).
  • Effectively manage human, fiscal and material resources.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with employees, city and state officials and the general public.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, specifically SCADA system, and their application in the wastewater field along with other industry technology.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Physical and drug screen required before hire.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work in the USA.

Working Conditions: 

  • In and outdoor environments, including extreme heat and extreme cold; insects will be present.
  • Possibility of getting dirty/ sludge covered while working.

Training and Teaching:

  • Participate in all training provided through the plant including Safety Training courses.
  • Use of PPE and maintenance of departmental safety and all other equipment.
  • Follow directions from the Director and Plant Supervisor regarding all issues of job performance and other work related issues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects.
  • Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.
  • Manual dexterity in hands and legs to use tools, bend and stretch.
  • Sufficient physical ability to perform all tasks.
