Summary:

Assist the Park Superintendent in the day-to-day operation of the City Parks and oversee operation of the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department.

Position Responsibilities (included, but are not limited to the following):

  • Assist the Park Superintendent in all facets of the operation of the Park Department during the regular working hours
  • Attend to the daily operational duties and direct Park staff in the absence of Superintendent
  • Write grant proposals
  • Assist in the coordination of Park calendar, photos, sponsorships, and printing
  • Network through business initiatives and events throughout surrounding area
  • Assist with marketing of Park events, create sponsor proposals for needed projects, solicit sponsorships, and donations
  • Participate in speaking engagements with all media
  • Supervise employees of the Recreation Department and Torner Center
  • Procure needed materials, manpower, and media coverage for all Park events
  • Work with maintenance department in preparation of facilities for special events and day-to-day operation of the maintenance department.
  • Release event results to media (if applicable)
  • Develop strategies to achieve organizational goals

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Detailed oriented
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Able to work some weekends and be on-call 24-hours a day
  • Basic computer skills

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Training: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or Business related field.  Minimum 2 years experience in Recreation Management.

Working Conditions:  Indoors and outdoors

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s).
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
