Responsibilities and tasks outlined in this document and are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the Wastewater Plant. Considerable knowledge of: Engine repair and maintenance of cars, trucks, semis, trailers or any and all City owned vehicles.
Position Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following).
- Responsibility, preventative maintenance for WWTP and Police vehicles/equipment regarding (oil changes, grease chassis, check and adjust brakes, tune-ups, carburation and replacing of various filters).
- ECM computer skills.
- Electrical repair ability.
- Fuel injection diagnostics.
- Knowledge of brakes, steering, air conditioning and suspension knowledge.
- Ability to use machinery such as: brake lathes, tire repair and balancer, welding equipment.
- Perform assignments as instructed by Auto Garage Foreman, and maintaining a good working relationship with Assistant Plant Supervisor and all WWTP Foremen.
- Responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment by instruction regarding the proper use of PPE.
- Maintaining a neat and orderly shop.
- Perform the requisition of tools, equipment, and supplies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Considerable ability to work well with others.
- Working ability to solve technical problems.
- Class B CDL license must be obtained before or within the first 90 days of employment.
- Use eyes, hand and fingers to operate or adjust equipment.
- Experience with braking systems, hydraulics, power take off units & suspensions.
- Familiar with common powered and non-powered tools (saw, wrench, and drill).
- Familiar with diesel engines and automotive electrical systems.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license.
- At least 3 years of mechanical experience in the automotive and or heavy equipment field.
- Ability to use Windows (most recent release), as related to work.
- Computer diagnostic and testing ability.
- ASE certifications, factory trained certifications or equivalent state certifications desired.
- Physical and drug screen required before hire.
- All applicants must be authorized to work in the USA.
Working Conditions: In and outdoor environments, including extreme heat and extreme cold, insects will be present.
Training and Teaching:
- Participate in all training provided through the plant including Safety Training courses.
- Use of PPE and maintenance of departmental safety and all other equipment.
- Follow directions from the Auto Garage Foremen regarding all issues of job performance and other work related issues.
Physical Requirements:
- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects.
- Ability to see within normal parameters.
- Ability to hear within normal range.
- Able to carry weight up to 75 lbs.
- Manual dexterity in hands and legs to use tools, bend and stretch.
- Sufficient physical ability to perform all tasks.
- May involve use of ladders or stairs.
