Reports to: Construction Foreman

Position Responsibilites (include but are not limited to the following).

  • Replace, repair and rework inlets, sewer mains, manhole structures, castings, lift-stations and other collection system fixtures.
  • Be proficient at placing and finishing concrete
  • Be proficient at mixing mortar and installing brick and block as needed.
  • Be competent at mobilizing and de-mobilizing job sites of all sizes.
  • Safely load/unload and transport multiple types of equipment, pipe, structures, and shoring.
  • Operate equipment such as: excavator, mini-excavator, backhoe, forklift, skid steer and tractors.
  • Be able to layout and install formwork for various types of concrete work such as: curb and gutter installations, driveway approach, parking lot, sidewalks, footers and poured walls.
  • Work on special projects for the Wastewater Utility and other City Departments.
  • Interact well directly and indirectly at all times with the public.
  • Be on-call for emergency services on a rotating weekly basis.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, safety procedures, operating instructions and procedural manuals.
  • Proper use of PPE in all situations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Considerable ability to work well with others.
  • Working ability to solve technical problems.
  • Able to follow directions well, and initiate repairs without direction.
  • CDL license must be obtained before or within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Use eyes, hand and fingers to operate or adjust equipment.
  • Use and read measuring devices such as: measuring tapes and wheel measures.
  • Familiar with common powered and non-powered tools such as: circular saws, drills, impact, welder, torches and concrete saw.
  • Ability to set up and utilize an eye level, transit, laser level, and pipe laser.
  • Able to work in confined spaces and work in elevated and excavated locations which may require the use of a ladder, fall protection or man-lift.
  • Be able to set up a safe working environment in and out of the right-of-way with the use of: road signs, type III barricades, safety barrels, arrow board and flaggers as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: 

High School Diploma, valid driver’s license.

  • CDL certification within first 90 days of hire.
  • Physical and drug screen required before hire.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work in the USA.

Working Conditions: 
In and outdoor environments, including extreme heat and extreme cold, insects will be present.

Training and Teaching:

  • Participate in all training provided through the plant including Safety Training courses.
  • Use of PPE and maintenance of departmental safety and all other equipment.
  • Follow directions from the Construction Foreman regarding all issues of Job performance and other work related issues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects.
  • Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.
  • Able to carry weight up to 80 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity in hands and legs to use tools, bend and stretch.
  • Sufficient physical ability to perform all tasks.
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs repeatedly throughout shift.
  • Able to work in a kneeling or squatting position for extended periods of time.
  • Able to unload and use a #82 air powered jack hammer.
  • Shoveling and raking for extended periods of time.
  • Complete 3-4 person lifts with co-workers of up to 300 lbs.
